It was believed by ancient pagan peoples that on this night, the veil between the living and the dead became thin and so they would wear costumes to disguise themselves from the spirits that would walk our living realm on all hallows. For most witches, pagans, and wiccans, Samhain is another turn of the wheel of the year where communing and honouring our dead ancestors is most potent, and so having pictures and offerings to loved ones and setting a place for them at the table would have been common practice. In this wheel of the year, I have tried to combine new and old Samhain or Halloween themes to embody what this spooky season festival means now and then.
